Frozen Water Buckets

Wintertime comes with its set of problems for keeping your horses hydrated.

Access to water being the most important thing …

Start by doing a late night check when you have freezing temperatures or below. Break ice in the buckets add warm water to try to keep the buckets ice free as much as possible.

On a daily basis ,start with ice free buckets in your stalls.

A good way to approach this is to take your buckets down and flip them over in the sun so that they have time to melt while you are cleaning the stalls .

Then tap lightly on the water buckets to remove all ice .

A good idea , if you have them, is to use extra buckets then you will have more time to melt the ice .

Do manage to keep all buckets in a safe place so as not to trip horses and people do not leave them in the barn aile or other heavily trafficked areas .

If your yard hydrants are freezing over you can use electric tape to keep them warm.

Please make sure any use of the electric gadgets are not plugged into the interior of the barn. Watch for faulty GFI plugs or anything that can cause overheating or melting of electric equipment as it may become a fire hazard.
