When the temperature starts dipping below freezing you need to take some precautions make sure that your horses are getting enough water.
You want them to be able to access fresh unfrozen water at all times. Dehydration in horses is what leads to colic.
Make sure that your horses water buckets are not frozen and your horse has unlimited access to water that is not frozen over .
Cracking the ice when turning out is ok but a better set up are plug in element heaters for your outdoor water troughs.
You must make sure they are properly grounded so that the horses don’t get shocked .
