Forward and through from behind does not mean
rushing or running on
Going faster
It does mean
taking a bigger step behind and covering more ground with each step .
The rhythm does not change and the tempo does not increase …
Rather the horse engages its hind legs to make a bigger step forward covering more ground with fewer steps .
Horses that are moving forward have less opportunity to balk and spook and if the horse is moving forward it is easier to stay on if the horse does lurch forward , back or sideways in a shying manner .
Some ways of getting a horse to move forward are ;
Lungeing and Longreining
Riding cross country in a fast walk trot canter and gallop.
Show jumping.
Hunting.
Make sure your horse is moving forward then you will be able to make a connection to the bit and and have your horse truly “on the aids”.
