At this time of year horses can easily develop infections in their eyes from flies.

Fly masks can improve the situation but must be monitored. They should not be left on if your horse is turned out at night.
If your horses eye does become infected it will look hot ,swollen and weepy.
It is important that you treat the horses eye with a mild saline solution and possibly, a triple antibiotic Ophthalmic ointment which will be prescribed by your veterinarian.
It’s very important to treat a horse so that the eye does not abscess.The infection will irritate the horse and he will rub his eyes causing more problems.
The eyes could suffer permanent damage if the horses are neglected.
