Tack Cleaning

Step by Step Approach to cleaning and keeping your tack safe and long lasting .

1. Take everything apart .Make a mental note of which holes your buckles are on .

2. Rinse with warm water .

(Rinse does not mean putting your leather in the water it means using a well wrung out sponge and rubbing hard until the sponge is dirty and then keep rinsing the sponge out .)

Too much water is bad for your leather .

3.Use your saddle soap and again a well wrung out sponge .

If you get to many suds on your tack don’t add any more water to your sponge ,keep rubbing your soap into your leather .

Use an old toothbrush to get into small spaces but be careful not to scratch the leather !

Your leather should have a dull sheen when you are finished .

You can never use too much soap !

4.Use Effax ™ oil or any conditioner on the stressed areas of the leather for example ,where the cheek pieces hold the bit in place .

5. Use you water bucket to soak your bit and /or stirrups .

And then dry well .

6. Reassemble your tack making sure you use your dedicated holes .

It’s important to get your tack put back together safely.

If you are not sure whether you have put your bit back on properly or you may have changed your hole settings ask a professional for help .

Clean your tack regularly to check for loose or dry rotted stitches or other safety issues .
