Riding Warm Up in The Walk and Trot

Calm Forward Straight

To be fair to your horse you should warm up slowly after mounting.

Give your horse a long rein and walk at least once around your arena in each direction .

Horses have great peripheral vision so they need to be able to see out of each eye to look at their surroundings each time you work out .

Once this is achieved you may shorten the reins for your trot work .

At this point ask the horse to keep his attention by making sure that his nose stays in the middle of his chest during the trot work .

Make small rein corrections if necessary.

Do at least 5 to 10 minutes of trot work and make sure you have a plan by studying some school figures before starting your ride .

Never turn the horse on a tight circle.

Make your turns keeping the hind legs in line with the front legs .

Remember that in order to keep the horse on two tracks the horse should actually be bending when going through the turns otherwise he will be considered crooked.
